We will guide you on choosing the right products - from the correct toothbrush to fluoride-rich toothpaste and other oral care products - and also any what you need to look out have a medical condition, such as diabetes.
Fissure sealants
Tooth decay is becoming increasingly common in children and one of the best ways of keeping your children’s teeth in good condition is with fissure sealants’.
Thin, plastic coatings are ‘painted’ onto the biting surfaces of your child’s teeth to prevent any food or bacteria getting stuck in the grooves and crevices on the tops of their teeth. This helps to stop plaque and tartar build up, which can lead to tooth decay.
The procedure is painless and straightforward - after the teeth are cleaned the sealants take literally minutes per tooth to put on. A curing light is shone on each tooth and s the solution in place.
They will last for several years but can some can, through wear, need replacing, Popping in to see us regular check ups, as part of your child’s dental care routine, will also mean we can keep an eye on them for you.
Scaling and polishing (under local anaesthetic where necessary)
Regular brushing and flossing go a long way to prevent build-up of plaque and tartar which cause tooth decay. But even these cannot remove every scrap which accumulates on your teeth.
Prevention is better than cure and a regular scale and polish will reduce the chance of disease arising or, if you have existing problems such as the start of gum disease, a scale and polish is an effective treatment.
We use the latest scaling techniques to remove plaque, tartar and bacteria more quickly than has previously been possible. For patients who either have sensitive gums or who perhaps need more work at their first appointment, we offer local anaesthetic to lessen the sensation.
The final polish will leave your mouth clean, refreshed and - most importantly - clear of build-up.
